s. f, The name of a river. The ancient Yamuná, personified as Yamí, twin sisters of Yamá. It rises in the Himalayas at Jamnotri at an elevation of 10,849 feet and after a course of 860 miles, falls into the Ganges at Allahabad. Its water is there clear as crystal, while that of the latter river is yellow. The Saraswatí is supposed to join the other rivers here underground. The spot is considered very holy.
