s. m, mole on the skin; a dark coloured seed from which oil is expressed, Sesame seed (Sesamum orientale, Indicum, Nat. Ord. Bignoniaceæ, A generally cultivated plant, often sown round the edges of fields as a border to the main crop. The seed is black as it comes from the plant:—til siyáh, s. m. It is blanched by rubbing off the outer skin after immersion in hot water and is then white:—til sufaid, s. m. This sells at a higher price and yields the best oil. The oil is bland and largely used as a food, and as it is free from smell for burning. The yield of oil is about two-fifths of the weight of seed used. The seeds are also used as food parched or on sweetmeats. Remedially they are reckoned warm and dry, and are used externally and internally in rheumatism. The oil is also used medicinally. The black seeds are reckoned most powerful, then the white, and then the red. The oil is also known as oil of benne. The oil-cake is given to cattle, and sometimess used by the poor as food when mixed with flour:—ban til, til phar, s. m. See Pallú:—til bhuggá, s. m. (M) A ceremony (sagan) at Muhammedan marriages unconnected with the religious service (nikáh Flour and til are placed by a Mirásaṉ seven times in the hands of the bride who places it as often in the bridegroom's hands.
