s. m, The Colocynth (Citrullus colycynthis, Nat. Ord. Cucurbitaceæ) which grows abundantly in most of the arid sandy tracts of the Panjab. Its fruit is extensively used as a purgative for horses. The pulp used medicinally for human beings by preference when fresh in warm water, or when dried with ajwaiṉ, and it is reckoned especially valuable in cholera—which smacks of homæopathy. The seeds are used medicinally. The fresh root is used as a tooth brush, and dried and powdered is given as a purgative:—tukhm tummáṇ, s. m. The seeds of Tummá.
