TÚT
ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਰਥ2
s. m, The mulberry tree; its fruit. In the Panjab there are two colours of mulberries red and white. There are two varieties of each colour One is small oval, mawkish sweet and a miserable fruit. The other called Shahtút is very long narrow looking like a caterpillar, greenish yellow or reddish black. It is exceedingly sweet and a great improvement on the smaller kind, but is flavourless. This Shahtút must be distinguished from the real Shahtút, the "royal mulberry" of Kashmir, which is fine large subacid well-flavoured like the English fruit. The Punjab fruit is the product of various species of Morus, Nat. Ord. Moraceæ. Thus we have Morus Indica, M. Alba, M. lœvigata, M. Sinensis, Chiṇdá tút, is importted from China, and forms the best food for silk worms. M. nigra is used medicinally as a refrigerant in inflammatory diseases and fevers, dyspepsia, melancholia. The bark is considered purgative and anthelmintic. The wood of all old mulberry trees is highly esteemed for furniture. It is a good lasting timber, but apt to bend and warp. It is largely used in boat and carriage building.
