s. m, Corrupted from the Persian word Pardah. A screen, anything that conceals, privacy, secrecy, modesty; the face of the earth, world; a musical tone, a note of the gamut; the flat plates of brass which are fixed crosswise between the body and strings of a sitár, (musical instrument); a film, fine web. eye-lid; the drum of the ear:—akal te paṛdá paiṉá, v. n. lit. To have the intellect curtained, to be hoodwinked, to be blind:—be paṛd, a. Unveiled, naked:—bá paṛdá, ad. In private, sub rosa, secretly:—paṛdá chakkṉá, chukkṉá, uṭháuṉá, v. a. To lift or raise the curtain; to reveal, to expose a secret:—paṛdá chhaḍḍṉá, v. a. To draw the curtain:—paṛdá ḍhakkṉá, v. n. To cover misdeeds:—paṛdá fásh hoṉá, v. n. To lose credit or good name, to become notorious:—paṛdá fásh karná, v. a. To disclose or betray secrets or misdeeds, to lose credit:—paṛdá karná, v. a. To hide, to screen:—paṛdá nashíṉ, paṛde dár, wálí, s. f. A woman who always remains in strict seclusion and does not appear before strange men, and who is, therefore, excused from appearing in person in a court of justice:—paṛdá paiṉá, v. n. To be drawn (the curtain), to be concealed:—paṛdá rakkhṉá, v. n. To keep one's secret, to hide one's fault.
