s. m. f, cherisher a nourisher:—a. Nourished, cherished, adopted;—s. f. A kind of greens (Beta vulgaris, var. orientalis, B. Bengalensis, or Spinacia oleracea, Nat. Ord. Salsolaceæ) frequently cultivated by natives, and used as a pot-herb. The seeds are used medicinally, being considered cooling and diaphoretic:—pálak dá ság, s. m. The spinach of pálak, used as a potherb:—jaṇglí pálak, s. f. A kind of vegetable (Rumex acutus, R. Wallichii, R. dentatus, Nat. Ord. Polygonaceæ) common in wet places throughout the plains. The leaves are bruised and used as a pot-herb, and considered cooling. In the Pesháwar Valley they are applied to sores and burns.
